Oral Health and hygiene

Good oral hygiene is a vital part of caring for your teeth, but it’s even more important while you’re wearing braces. If you don’t pay close attention to your cleaning techniques, you can increase your risk of tooth decay and gum irritation, and plaque can build up on fixed brackets, which can lead to permanent white marks on your teeth.

If your brace is removable, you can take it out to clean it and to brush your teeth.

A fixed brace is more of a challenge to keep clean but we can offer advice about the most effective techniques and we do sell special brushes to help clean those hard to reach areas. Mouthwashes and disclosing tablets (to reveal all areas you’ve missed) will also boost cleanliness.

Whatever type of appliance you wear, it’s best to avoid chewy, sugary treats, which have a tendency to stick around, as well as fizzy drinks or fruit juice, as these can erode tooth enamel.
